Build Website Links that Won’t Get You in Trouble

Build Quality Website LinksSo how do you build links on your website without running afoul of the search engines, Google in particular? After all, links are an important part of good SEO. Penguin has been a thorn in the side of many web marketers. The methods that worked in 2007 no longer work to bring in traffic.

It used to be that all you had to do was get as many inbound links as possible and your page rank was on a rocket ship to the number one rank on the search engine results pages (SERPs). Thanks to Penguin, if you tried these methods today, your site would likely be banned pretty quickly.

Link farms are gone and most article directories are as well. So, does this mean that the era of link building is over? Hardly. The new focus is to generate safe links to provide a genuine interest in the site. But, how do you go about gaining the links and what links are safe to have pointed at your website?

The most important thing to look at is the domain authority and page authority of a site. According to Buzz Stream, this is easy to do through Open Site Explorer. If the site ranks high, it is going to provide a heavier link weight to boost your site. In fact, you should take the time to look at all the metrics that are associated with a site linked to you. If they rank low in PageRank or with MozRank, the link will drag your site down.

There are a few really good links to have pointed at your page. Any link coming from a .edu or a .org site is pure gold link-wise. This is because these kinds of sites are very authoritative and they rarely, if ever, offer links other than natural links to sites. For the most part, any site that does not link unnaturally to a lot of commercial sites will benefit you if they add a link to your page.
